Piazza Martiri della Libertà 48, 10040 Almese

Almese is a town of about 6,000 inhabitants, located at the entrance of the Susa Valley along the slopes of Mount Musinè. The territory, partly flat, develops with its hamlets in the mountain area towards Colle del Lys and Rubiana. The ancient and important settlement is documented from Roman times thanks to the presence of a Roman villa from the Augustan age in the Milanere Grange area. The ancient church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, built on a hill away from the village, was replaced by the parish church designed by G. Boschis and built between 1963 and 1966, larger and more modern. The medieval era is instead testified by the fortified core of the San Mauro dike, dating back to the 14th century in the direction of the Rivera hamlet. A very culturally active municipality hosts the Giorgio Calcagno Literary Prize every year, dedicated to the journalist and writer of Almese origin. Many naturalistic itineraries lead from Almese to the slopes of Mount Musinè, to the sanctuary of the Madonna della Bassa or to the splendid water mirror of the Goja del Pis. Among the initiatives related to the local gastronomy with the Gustovalsusa calendar, there is the Sagra delle Siôle pien-e festival in the Rivera hamlet.
