Corso Laghi, 278, 10051 Avigliana
Not far from the town of Avigliana, on the Lago Grande, there is the Sanctuary of the Madonna dei Laghi, built between 1622 and 1642 on the site where a votive pillar depicting the Virgin stood, which had been a destination for pilgrimages since the end of the 14th century. Its origin is traditionally linked to a vow made by Bona of Bourbon on the occasion of the birth of her son Amadeus (future Amadeus VII of Savoy) in 1360.
The complex was entrusted to the Capuchin Fathers from 1622 to 1800 and currently hosts the Salesians, who settled there in 1892.
The interior is dominated by the 16th-century polyptych of the Annunciation with Saints Roch and Sebastian, a work by Defendente Ferrari and his pupils, donated in 1615 by Charles Emmanuel I.
Also noteworthy inside is Guido Reni's Saint Maurice Receiving the Palm of Martyrdom, a copy of Caravaggio's Madonna of the Pilgrims, Saint Michael the Archangel by Antonio Maria Viani from Cremona, Saint Francis Adoring the Crucifix attributed to Carlo Vacca from Saluzzo, and episodes from the lives of Saint Francis of Assisi and Saint Anthony of Padua by Charles Dauphin.
