Les Arnauds, 10052 Bardonecchia
The ZSC Les Arnauds – Punta Quattro Sorelle extends in the municipality of Bardonecchia, covering an area of 1031 hectares on the watershed that separates the Rho Valley from the Stretta Valley, at an altitude ranging from 1350 to 2811 meters.
It includes a vast alpine area characterized by peaks with a dolomitic appearance, predominantly rocky habitats such as limestone walls and scree slopes.
Six habitats of community interest have been identified: two are wooded environments, the larch forests, very widespread in the western Alpine arc, and the mountain pine forests on a limestone substrate. Beyond the tree vegetation limit, there are basiphilous grasslands, and lower down, meadows-pastures. The vegetation of the scree slopes and limestone cliffs is of great interest. Animal species of great interest are present, including the golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) and the wolf (Canis lupus). Additionally, there are numerous lepidopterans considered xerothermic and Mediterranean relics, as well as the species Parnassius phoebus and Maculinea arion.
