Località Horres Bardonecchia, 10052 Bardonecchia
The chapel of SS. Andrea and Giacomo of Horres, near Millaures, is situated on the edge of an ancient pasture, in a splendid position overlooking the entire Bardonecchia basin. Its construction probably dates back to the late 15th century and it is completely decorated, both externally and internally, with pictorial cycles created by three different fresco painters who worked simultaneously around the 1530s.
Outside, there is a striking "Parade of Vices and Virtues," unfortunately partly mutilated, overlaid with the depiction of Saints Peter and Andrew. In the parade scene, the individual vices are personified by men and women riding symbolic animals and chained by the neck, being pushed by a horde of devils towards the mouth of Leviathan, placed on the left.
The interior, embellished with a beautiful wooden choir loft, is almost entirely decorated. The presbytery area hosts scenes from the life of St. Andrew the Apostle, along with depictions of an elegant St. Lucy and a fragmentary St. Anthony of Padua, while the vaults of the prayer hall present scenes from the life and martyrdom of St. James, alongside the depiction of the Mass of St. Gregory and St. George slaying the dragon.
The chapel can be visited with the automated opening system "Chiese a Porte aperte".
