Località Bramafam, 10052 Bardonecchia
In the fine 19th century, the Forte Bramafam of Bardonecchia was the most important fortification of the Cottian Alps; after the last conflict, looting and devastation had reduced it to a mass of ruins.
Since 1995, thanks to the initiative of the Association for the Study of Military History and Architecture, a restoration project was launched, which has evolved over the past 25 years, giving life to a unique museum, just as unique as the reality of a volunteer association that rents a State property to restore it.
The idea is to create a museum on the history of the Royal Army, where through 38 rooms, a series of careful environmental reconstructions, with 180 mannequins wearing original uniforms, 74 artillery pieces from different eras, and over 2000 historical artifacts, the military history of Italy from 1890 to 1945 is told.
A history attentive to details, to the events of daily life where the story of men emerges from the flow of time, with small and great stories.
The Museum's approach was to place the historical "good": uniforms, documents, weapons, personal objects, at the center of the narrative; this is to preserve and pass on memory.
