Via Giorgio Des Geneys 6, 10052 Bardonecchia
The Civic Museum, housed in the nineteenth-century building that once served as the town hall, spans two floors and showcases the material culture of the old mountain village: founded in 1954, the museum offers a snapshot of the daily life and culture of mountain people and illustrates the rhythms of the agricultural and pastoral economy that characterized the village before the advent of mass tourism.
Inside the Museum, the ground floor room houses objects, furniture, furnishings, and tools related to daily life, as well as a small section of sacred art.
Additionally, one can observe the local female costume and the precious lace made with bobbins, a craft that, according to tradition, was introduced in Rochemolles, a hamlet of Bardonecchia, at the beginning of the 17th century and is still practiced by some local women today.
On the upper floor, objects and work tools, as well as period photographs and postcards depicting moments of work and landscapes of the past, are on display.
