Chronology: 1510 - 1520
Material and technique: Fresco
Location: Church of Saint Peter the Apostle, Rochemolles - Bardonecchia

Description:

According to a pious tradition that arose in the West during the medieval age, Veronica was the woman who wiped Jesus' face, soaked in blood and sweat, as he climbed to Golgotha, with a linen cloth, on which the sacred image of Christ was miraculously imprinted.

In the parish church of Rochemolles, the image of Veronica can be seen, although amid conspicuous gaps, at the base of the altar of the side chapel of St. Sebastian.
Here, the true face of the Redeemer is set in a round frame on a cloth that the pictorial fiction places over the liturgical table.
