Archeology
Throughout its long history, the Susa Valley has been a land of transit and conquest for numerous peoples who have created an extraordinary cultural polyphony made of grafts and persistences, of a fervent dialogue between tradition and innovation.
Our territory boasts a rich archaeological heritage of extraordinary interest, bearing witness to a millennial history of great fascination, to be discovered in a journey through civilizations of a distant and glorious past.
Part of the archaeological heritage is preserved in Vaie, Chiomonte, and Susa as well as at the foot of Rocciamelone.
Of no less interest is the archaeological park of Tur d'Amun in Bardonecchia, to which many sites, more or less known, distributed throughout the territory are added: the Roman villas of Caselette and Almese, the evocative site of Maometto di Borgone, the remains of the castles of Avigliana, Condove, San Giorio di Susa, the ricetto of San Mauro in Almese, the mysterious "House of the Tombstones" in Bousson, near Cesana Torinese, and the Nobel Dynamite Factory in Avigliana as a precious example of industrial archaeology.
