General Assembly of the European Association of the Via Francigena Ways in the Susa Valley
On October 23, Avigliana will host the second General Assembly of the European Association of the Via Francigena Ways (AEVF).
Following the spring gathering in Altopascio, this autumn meeting is part of the association’s 25th-anniversary celebrations and coincides with initiatives marking the 1,300th anniversary of the founding of the Novalesa Abbey (726–2026), a landmark site in the Susa Valley.
The assembly will bring together local officials, associations, cultural professionals, private stakeholders, and individuals connected to the Via Francigena. On the morning of Friday, October 23, the focus will be on "Envisioning the Via Francigena of Tomorrow" workshops—an opportunity for members to discuss the route's future prospects. The General Assembly proceedings will take place in the afternoon at the Teatro Fassino.
The cultural program runs from October 22 to 24. A social gathering is scheduled for Thursday, October 22, in Sant’Ambrogio di Torino, featuring a visit to the museum housed in the former Bosio knitwear factory. On Saturday, October 24, a final excursion will take participants from the village of Novalesa to its historic Abbey. These activities will provide opportunities for AEVF members to connect and to explore the historical, artistic, and culinary heritage of the Susa Valley.
