Buttigliera Alta

From the interpretation of frescoes and traditions linked to the agricultural calendar to tales surrounding the birth of Jesus, the Preceptory of Sant’Antonio di Ranverso presents four narrative-led tours throughout November and December. As winter arrives, the complex reaffirms its historical role as a place of hospitality and care, exploring stories, imagery, and seasonal observances that reveal the interplay between daily life, spirituality, and the changing of the seasons.

Scheduled between November 1 and December 20, 2026, these events each delve into a specific theme tied to the time of year: All Saints' Day, Saint Martin’s Day, Saint Lucy’s Day, and Christmas.

Sunday, December 20
The Cradle in the Darkness
The anticipation of the Nativity through art, the Gospels, and popular devotion

Just days before Christmas, this tour explores the theme of the birth of Jesus through works housed in the Preceptory. The focus lies on the frescoes by Giacomo Jaquerio and the *Nativity* polyptych by Defendente Ferrari, connecting these images to accounts from both canonical and apocryphal Gospels, as well as to the origins of the Nativity scene tradition. It is a journey through art and devotion, revealing the various ways in which the Nativity has been recounted and depicted.

All sessions begin at 3:00 PM and include a comprehensive guided tour of the Preceptory of Sant’Antonio di Ranverso, enhanced by a specific thematic focus. The narratives are presented by Serena Fumero, head of Educational Services for the FOM (Fondazione Ordine Mauriziano). INFO
