Buttigliera Alta

From the interpretation of frescoes and traditions linked to the agricultural calendar to tales surrounding the birth of Jesus, the Preceptory of Sant’Antonio di Ranverso presents four narrative-led tours throughout November and December. As winter arrives, the complex reaffirms its historical role as a place of hospitality and care, exploring stories, imagery, and seasonal observances that reveal the interplay between daily life, spirituality, and the changing of the seasons.

Scheduled between November 1 and December 20, 2026, these events each delve into a specific theme tied to the time of year: All Saints' Day, Saint Martin’s Day, Saint Lucy’s Day, and Christmas.

Sunday, December 13th
Saint Lucy
The Night and the Light
The shortest day and tales from the evening vigil

In popular tradition, the feast of Saint Lucy is linked to the transition from darkness to light and to the rituals that accompanied the wait for the end of winter. The tour weaves together tales from ancient evening vigils, rural traditions focused on the protection of one’s eyesight, and stories passed down around the hearth. It is an opportunity to discover how medieval and rural communities faced the cold season, amidst beliefs, customs, and the anticipation of the sun’s return.

All sessions begin at 3:00 PM and include a comprehensive guided tour of the Preceptory of Sant’Antonio di Ranverso, enhanced by a specific thematic focus. The narratives are presented by Serena Fumero, head of Educational Services for the FOM (Fondazione Ordine Mauriziano). INFO
