From Friday, July 17th to Sunday, July 19th, Piazza del Popolo will be home to the best pizzas and authentic Neapolitan pizza, but not only that. A three-day event dedicated to the finest food, featuring Neapolitan desserts, entertainment, a kids' area, music, and the best pizza makers in Italy.
The event will be held on Friday from 6:00 PM to midnight, and on Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 PM to midnight. Admission is free in Piazza del Popolo. Reservations are not required, as there are over 600 seats.
The original Pizza Festival is a celebration of pizza prepared in all its flavors and variations, from classic Neapolitan to gourmet, to fried pizza.
Eight ovens will be constantly on, with 20 pizza makers kneading, baking, and serving pizzas at stands set up in the square, from noon until night, non-stop, bringing the goodness and authenticity of pizza to the streets.
The excellence of the art of pizza making will be on display, made with the finest, healthiest, and tastiest ingredients to offer the authentic flavor of this most Italian of culinary delights. Coming directly from Campania will be master pizza chefs Antonio Romeo, Salvatore Grieco, 2016 Italian champion Giovanni D’Auria, Totò Sapore, Giovanni Polise, Andrea Marino, the queen of fried pizza Tina Quaranta, and many others. Two local pizzerias will also be present to represent the region.
Pizza, now a symbol of simplicity but also of Italianness, is one of the foods that best represents our country around the world. It is eaten and appreciated by all people, and its consumption continues to grow every year. During the event, there will be food stands offering "Friends of Pizza" products such as fried pizza, sfogliatelle, and cuoppi.
The Pizza Festival project was born from an idea by national director Gianluca Miolli, who has the ability to involve the best Italian pizza makers and organize, together with the Italian Association of Pizza Chefs, successful and highly appreciated events throughout Italy. Today, the Pizza Festival is a national circuit, taking place from April to October throughout Italy, with regular events every weekend.
On February 4, 2010, pizza was officially recognized as a traditional specialty guaranteed by the European Community. In 2017, the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO recognized "the art of Neapolitan pizza making as part of the cultural heritage of humanity, transmitted from generation to generation and continuously recreated, capable of providing the community with a sense of identity and continuity, and of promoting respect for cultural diversity and human creativity, according to the criteria established by the 2003 UNESCO Convention."
Music and entertainment for children and families will be featured at the Pizza Festival. During the three evenings, there will be music and children's shows, with music on all three nights and entertainment by Mara-Dona and Pulci-Nella. Additionally, on Friday, July 17th, there will be a performance by Oltreconfine, and on Saturday the 18th, entertainment by the La Flaca Dance School of Avigliana and a dinner with Neapolitan singer Vezzosino. The Pizza Festival program remains unchanged even in case of rain. Admission to the stands, children's area, and shows is free every day of the event.
