A journey through art, history, and imagination to explore the visionary worlds of the temptations of Saint Anthony. On Saturday, June 13, the Preceptory of Saint Anthony of Ranverso will host the second edition of "The Mysteries of Ranverso," a role-playing experience designed specifically for the Gothic complex that transforms the visit into a participatory narrative.
After the first episode tested last year, "The Trace of Temptation," the initiative continues with a new chapter entitled "The Temptations of Saint Anthony," an original adventure written by Departments & Dragons of the University of Turin and set in a Middle Ages suspended between historical reality and fantasy.
The story draws inspiration from the famous triptych of the Temptations of Saint Anthony by Hieronymus Bosch, housed in the Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga in Lisbon, and establishes a dialogue with the cycle of frescoes dedicated to the same theme created by Giacomo Jaquerio in the presbytery of the abbey church of Ranverso. Participants will be challenged to explore places, figures, and symbols inspired by the works, ideally entering the painted worlds through a narrative and collaborative experience.
The game is based on Hieronymus, a title created by Laurie O'Connell and published in Italy by Grumpy Bear. Through role-playing, participants will explore themes related to imagination, emotions, and human behavior, experiencing the spaces of the Preceptory in a different way than a traditional visit.
For participants, the day's program includes a meeting at 11:30 a.m., a guided tour of the Preceptory, a packed lunch in the cloister prepared by the participants, and, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., the role-playing game.
