Exhibition by Milesi in Susa

June 20, 2026 - June 21, 2026

Susa

On Saturday, June 20, at 5:30 pm, Adelaide Castle opens its doors to the photography exhibition "Landscapes of Time," a visual journey through the landscapes, monuments, and memorial sites of the Susa Valley, photographed by Federico Milesi.

For the summer season, Adelaide Castle combines its historical and archaeological itinerary with a contemporary look at the region, offering visitors and tourists visiting the valley an opportunity to recognize, in the places depicted in Milesi's photographs, the same layering of history and landscape that the museum preserves and recounts year-round.

The exhibition brings together a selection of Milesi's photographs, with which he has documented the region for years: from the Sacra di San Michele to the Exilles Fort, from the Chaberton Fort to Lake Moncenisio, from the Novalesa Abbey to the valley's medieval castles, and all the way to the Alpine villages and vast natural landscapes of the upper Susa Valley. The images are accompanied by literary passages and historical testimonies that convey to visitors the layering of meanings these places have accumulated over time, encompassing memory, nature, and local identity.

Federico Milesi, born in Salbertrand and resident in Susa, has been documenting the valley's cultural and landscape heritage for over fifteen years. His archive includes over nine thousand images published on the photography portal Flickr, accessible to anyone; a selection of his photographs is also released under an open license on Wikimedia Commons, where they contribute to the shared documentation of the area's cultural heritage. In the 2025 edition of Wiki Loves Monuments, the world's largest photography competition dedicated to cultural heritage with over 233,500 images from 56 countries, his photograph of the Sacra di San Michele took first place in Italy and seventh place overall in the international rankings. In the same competition, Milesi also won the Piedmont regional section with a shot of Castel Borello in Bussoleno and received the special "Monumento svelato" award for his aerial shot of the Desertes cemetery in Cesana Torinese.

The opening on Saturday, June 20, will feature presentations by the author Federico Milesi, the director of the Adelaide Castle, and the director of the Revejo Association, along with municipal administrators. This will be an opportunity to present the exhibition to the public and retrace, through the words of its creators, the observation and documentation that led to the show.

The exhibition will remain open until August 30, 2026, with admission included in the ticket to the Susa Civic Archaeological Museum and free for Museum Pass holders. Adelaide Castle is open to the public on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm; From June 29th to July 31st, the museum is also open on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Last admission is 30 minutes before closing.
