Every third Sunday of September, Chiusa di San Michele comes alive with scents, colors, and traditions for Gusto di Meliga, the festival that is part of the Gusto Valsusa series.
At the heart of the celebration is “Pan ëd Melia”, a traditional sweet bread made with cornmeal, which takes center stage alongside other corn-based products and local handicrafts.
The town’s streets and main square are transformed into a large open-air stage: amidst live music and festive cheer, a vibrant market exhibition unfolds with numerous stalls offering local specialties, tastings of Pan ëd Melia, and other authentic flavors of the valley. A glimpse into the region’s agricultural past is also offered through demonstrations of traditional corn threshing using old farming machines.
Throughout the day, visitors can enrich their experience by exploring the Museum of Rural Life Traditions at the former dairy (Ex Latteria) or discovering the evocative archaeological site of the former Chapel of San Giuseppe.
