One of the most eagerly awaited autumn events in the Susa Valley is back again this year: the 26th edition of “Art, Crafts, Music and… Siole Pien-e”, scheduled for Sunday, October 5 in Rivera di Almese, with a rich calendar of events running from Thursday, October 2 to Sunday, October 12.
The event, which coincides with the celebration of Our Lady of the Rosary, is an important moment for the local community and brings renewed attention to the famous Stuffed Onions, a symbol of Rivera’s culinary tradition. The festival is organized by the Siole Piene Association, in collaboration with local associations and the Monte Musinè Commercial District, and is sponsored by the Municipality of Almese, the Metropolitan City of Turin, Slow Food Piemonte and Valle d’Aosta, and the Unione Montana Valle Susa.
As every year, the success of the event is made possible thanks to the many volunteers who, through their dedication, strengthen community spirit and local collaboration networks.
This year’s program includes two “OFF” events that precede the main festival: on Thursday, October 2, two local restaurants — *Le Saint Vincent* in the Milanere district of Almese and *Le Vigne* in Rubiana — will offer a special menu dedicated to the flat blonde onion. The two chefs will also be featured in a show cooking event on Monday, October 6.
On Friday, October 3 at 9:00 PM, the official opening ceremony will take place with the presence of local authorities and a concert by the Rivera Philharmonic, conducted by Maestro Giorgio Bunino.
On Saturday, October 4, there will be a Stuffed Onion and Apple Pie Contest, open to everyone — young and old. At 4:30 PM, at the Ricetto di San Mauro, the exhibition “AETHER. The Quintessence” will be inaugurated, featuring artists Stefania Manetta and Loris Pavan.
From 3:00 PM and throughout Sunday evening, a photo exhibition by Omar Viara will be on display in the Palatenda, documenting the April flood event.
At 9:00 PM in the Palatenda, the stage will host a concert by Radiofreccia, a Ligabue tribute band.
On Sunday, October 5, a full day of activities for all ages.
At 11:00 AM, there will be a Solemn Mass followed by a procession through the streets of Rivera, and throughout the day, visitors can enjoy tastings, performances, exhibitions, and sports and dance demonstrations.
In the morning, the first Piero Ghibaudo Memorial “Duathlon del Messa”, a team competition, will take place at the Almese Bike Park.
All day long, there will be an Artisan Market featuring handmade crafts, local products, and Slow Food Presidia. In the afternoon, the much-anticipated distribution of Siole Pien-e (Stuffed Onions) and Bignette cui Pum (Apple Fritters) will take place. The Stuffed Onions will be available in sweet, savory, and vegetarian versions.
Don’t miss the Historic Car Gathering in the afternoon, organized by Motor Vej d’la Valsusa, and at 3:00 PM the impressive Raku Ceramic Firing demonstration with artist Grazia Gravina. For children, there will be storytelling and entertainment by Il Bosco delle Meraviglie (“The Forest of Wonders”).
Throughout the day, an Outdoor Art Competition will be held, and the “Little France” art exhibition will be open in the elementary school gym, featuring works by John Aftab, Cinzia Catapane, and Chiara Miola.
At 8:30 PM in the Palatenda, the youth of the Rivera Oratory will present a theatrical performance of “Romeo and Juliet.”
On Monday, October 6 at 7:00 PM in the Palatenda, “Siole, Cous Cous and Rare Wines: Local products meet world cuisine” — a show cooking event with chefs Flavie Yemdjeu and Rosa Del Gaudo. There will be a tasting of the flat blonde onion of Drubiaglio, a Slow Food Presidium, paired with rare wines from the Susa Valley, curated by the Association for the Protection of Baratuciat and Historic Vines of the Sacra.
