The night of the Perseids becomes an opportunity to discover the Preceptory of Sant'Antonio di Ranverso from an unusual perspective. On Sunday, August 9th, Waiting for San Lorenzo offers an evening dedicated to guided observation of shooting stars, in collaboration with Infini.TO – Turin Planetarium, and a special nighttime tour of the monumental complex.
Tradition links shooting stars to the martyrdom of Saint Lawrence, killed on August 10, 258 AD, interpreting them as the saint's tears. In reality, the phenomenon is due to the Perseid meteor shower, composed of tiny fragments of dust and ice left by the Swift-Tuttle comet along its orbit around the Sun. Every summer, the encounter of this debris with the Earth's atmosphere gives rise to one of the most anticipated astronomical spectacles of the year.
Accompanied by an astrophysicist from Infini.TO – Turin Planetarium, participants will be guided through the observation of the summer sky and its wonders. The evening will also offer the opportunity to visit the Preceptory of Sant'Antonio di Ranverso at night, discovering the history of the Antonian Order and admiring the masterpieces housed in the monumental complex in an evocative and unusual atmosphere.
