Avigliana

Fashion and music, culture and sharing. These are the ingredients of the enriching weekend organized by the Vita e Pace Association, which will transform the evocative Church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Avigliana into a meeting place where fashion, creativity, dreams, and talent will meet
in a special afternoon dedicated to self-expression through the art of tailoring.
On Sunday, June 14th, at 4:30 pm, "Personalities Cucite Su Misura" will take place, a fashion show curated by JAVÌ – Jessica Avitabile's Fashion and Tailoring School, a local creative and educational organization that in recent years has engaged people of all ages in discovering the world of fashion and sewing.
The event pays tribute to Madeleine Vionnet, one of the most revolutionary figures in twentieth-century fashion, whose birth marks the 150th anniversary this year. Born on June 22, 1876, the French designer is considered a pioneer of haute couture and one of the women who profoundly transformed the way women dress and think about the female body.
Founder of the prestigious Maison Vionnet, Madeleine freed women from the rigid corsets and constricting structures of 19th-century fashion, introducing a new concept of elegance based on freedom of movement and the natural enhancement of the figure.
Her most famous intuition was the revolutionary bias cut, a technique that involves cutting fabric at a forty-five-degree angle to the warp and weft. This process, still widely used today, allows for fluid, soft, and form-fitting garments that naturally follow the body. The iconic evening gowns worn by Hollywood divas in the 1930s and 1940s are a testament to this legacy.
Vionnet's innovative message will be reinterpreted through the creations of the students of the JAVÌ school, born from a journey of study, passion, and experimentation.
Accompanying the fashion show will be the talented young pianist Samuele Tozzi, who will contribute to creating an elegant and engaging atmosphere.
Behind the JAVÌ project is the story of Jessica Avitabile, a graduate in architecture and founder of the school.
