Avigliana

The concert season of the Vita e Pace Cultural Center continues, which in 2026 offers a journey inspired by the theme "People, Characters and Personalities", the underlying theme of the twenty-four events on the calendar. In perfect harmony with this project, on Sunday 12 July at 4.30 pm, in the evocative setting of the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore in the Borgo Vecchio of Avigliana, the concert "Recitar cantando - Opera gives voice to the character" will be staged. The protagonists of the event will be the soprano Rita La Vecchia, the bass-baritone Mattia Pauluzzo and the pianist Andrea Troni, who will accompany the audience on a journey among the great characters of melodrama, made immortal by the music of the most famous composers: Mozart, Bellini, Donizetti, Verdi and Puccini. The program offers a rich gallery of unforgettable figures. From Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro will come the irresistible Figaro with the famous aria "Nonpiù andrai, farfallone amoroso" and the sweet Barbarina with "L'ho perduta, me meschina". From Bellini's Sonnambula Amina and Count Rodolfo will come to life, while from Verdi's Simon Boccanegra the drama of Jacopo Fiesco will emerge, mourning the death of his daughter Maria. There will also be space for Donizetti with Adina from Elisir d'amore, for Puccini with Colline and the moving "Vecchia zimarra" from Bohème, and with Lauretta who will interpret the famous "O mio babbino caro" from Gianni Schicchi. Pamina and Papageno from Mozart's The Magic Flute will not be missing. A particular presence in the program will be represented by the composition of Mattia Pauluzzo, who set to music one of the most famous paintings of Alessandro Manzoni's The Betrothed: "Perpetua, Perpetua", a dialogue between Don Abbondio and his faithful housekeeper. Alongside the vocal arias, pianist Andrea Troni will offer two orchestral pages transcribed for piano: the overtures to Giuseppe Verdi's La Forza del Destino and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Magic Flute, enhancing all the potential of the magnificent baby grand piano kept in the church, capable of evoking the breath of an entire symphony orchestra.
