What is a "gamebook" (or choose-your-own-adventure book)? Game designer Dario Leccacorvi will explain it on Friday, November 6, at 5:00 PM at the "Primo Levi" Civic Library in Avigliana. The event is part of "International Games Month," an initiative joined by libraries worldwide. Throughout the month of November, the library will explore the role that games play within communities and library services.
The "Primo Levi" Civic Library in Avigliana is participating in International Games Month—an initiative that originated in the U.S. as "National Games Day" in 2007, conceived by Jenny Levine and Scott Nicholson. The initial goal of this free event was ambitious: to set a world record by bringing together as many people as possible—simultaneously, across every corner of the globe—to play the same game within libraries.
From that initial spark, the initiative has grown steadily: renamed "International Games Day" in 2012, it evolved into "International Games Week" in 2017, and by 2022, it expanded into a full month of celebrations known as "International Games Month." Today, the project connects communities across all seven continents, continuing to promote the cultural and social value of gaming to both the general public and publishers. For libraries, it has become a staple event for networking and engaging citizens through play.
