In November, the world of cabaret arrives at the Eugenio Fassino Theatre in Avigliana for the fourth edition of “Ape Ridens,” a national competition organized by the association AMAndoli ODV, which awards the coveted “Oscar of Laughter.” The competition is open to comedians, impressionists, cabaret performers, entertainers, comedic magicians, cabaret troupes, comedic mimes, variety performers, ventriloquists, musical comedians, and street artists. The final evening is scheduled for Saturday, November 7, at 8:45 PM. It will be hosted by the irrepressible BarbieBubu—the stage persona of Dario Bellotti—and will feature special appearances by the troupe “Equilibristi di Sogni” (“Dream Tightrope Walkers”) and comedian Davide D’Urso, known for his satirical videos about Turin’s neighborhoods, his active social media presence, and his appearances on the television programs “Eccezionale Veramente” and “Colorado.” The event is held under the patronage of the Regional Council of Piedmont, the Metropolitan City of Turin, and the Municipality of Avigliana.
Proceeds from the evening will go toward launching inclusive workshops for individuals in the Susa Valley who have experienced mental health challenges. The association AMAndoli was established in 2019 by a self-help group from the Avigliana Mental Health Center; it works to dismantle prejudices and combat the stigma surrounding mental illness. Its members include volunteers and family members of individuals experiencing mental health challenges who are receiving care through the Inter-agency Mental Health Department of the ASL TO3 (Local Health Authority 3) and the San Luigi Gonzaga University Hospital in Orbassano. AMAndoli has set itself the task of speaking clearly about mental health—providing information, encouraging prevention, creating opportunities for meeting and discussion, and acting as a bridge between personal needs and public institutions. The organization aims to address concrete challenges collaboratively, fostering a network of connections among families, associations, and other stakeholders. In doing so, it seeks to enrich the local community with values such as active listening, acceptance, openness, support for the most vulnerable, and a commitment to the common good. This enables families to take an active, central role in their own care, rehabilitation, and prevention journeys, with the assurance that they can rely on the support of the entire community.
