Almese

On Sunday, October 25, the village of Milanere in Almese will host the 11th edition of the Agricultural and Livestock Fair—a well-established event in the Susa Valley’s autumn calendar that celebrates the region’s deep-rooted connection to agriculture, livestock farming, and local traditions.

Throughout the day, starting at 9:00 a.m., the fairgrounds will feature an exhibition dedicated to the “Barà-Pustertaler” cattle breed, alongside displays of various animals, agricultural machinery, and vintage tractors. Visitors will also find a market showcasing local produce and handicrafts, demonstrations of traditional trades along Via della Chiesa, a photographic exhibition organized by the “Amici 91” association, and plenty of opportunities to sample local specialties at various stalls and designated dining areas.

The program offers a wide range of activities for visitors of all ages. The day begins at 8:00 a.m. with the *transhumance* (the seasonal movement of livestock), which will depart from Villar Dora and is expected to arrive at the fairgrounds by 9:30 a.m. The event will include demonstrations of plowing and threshing by the group “La Ruggine Piemontese,” farriery (horseshoeing) by Edoardo Biamino from the FORMONT school in Cuneo, and even medieval combat displays presented by the “Taurus” association. The festivities will also feature traveling music by the “Tequila Band,” performances by a country dance group, and shows by the flag-throwers (*sbandieratori*) of the City of Avigliana. The scheduled offerings include giant wooden games provided by “Rici Giochi,” as well as activities for four-legged friends, featuring a dog show organized by “Dog One Almese.” During this event, trainers will offer advice and the opportunity to try out some practical exercises with your own dog. For younger children, there will be face painting with Rebecca, pony rides, and outdoor activities hosted by “La Prateria,” alongside “Pompieropoli”—an initiative organized by the local branch of the Fire Department.
At 3:30 PM, the awards ceremony for the livestock featured in the cattle exhibition will take place, with the participation of ARAP, Coldiretti, and CIA.
