By carA thin red thread connects the traditional festivals of the Susa Valley: from the villages of the valley floor to those on the mountain, gestures are repeated that have their roots in very ancient pre-Christian rituals related to fertility and nature cults.
The Puento of Chiomonte and the Bran of Giaglione, adorned with flowers, are made to jump in honor of the return of spring.
The sword dancers of Giaglione, Venaus, and San Giorio perform numerous and harmonious figures with the sword.
The sword dance is considered a New Year's ritual, with the function of propitiating the rebirth of the earth, as well as traditional carnivals during which the tradition of the Carnival Bonfire is still kept alive, burned precisely as a symbol of rebirth.
