Piazza San Pietro 3, 10055 Condove

The eighteenth-century Church of San Pietro is located on the ancient square of Condove, for whose construction in 1755 an existing seventeenth-century chapel, called the chapel of the square, dedicated to San Carlo Borromeo, was modified and expanded.

The church with a single nave was opened for worship in 1757, becoming the new parish church replacing the older church now dedicated to San Rocco.

In 1838, under the direction of the then parish priest Don Michele Antonio Pettigiani, the church was expanded by adding two naves, one on the right and one on the left of the pre-existing one, bringing the church to its current dimensions.

Later, at the end of the 19th century, the painter and priest from Alpignano Don Edoardo Mentasti, a student of Tommaso Minardi, frescoed the vault of the central nave and the dome with scenes from the life of San Pietro, specifically the miraculous catch, liberation from prison, and confession on the vault, but it is in the dome that the most valuable artwork is found, with the Apotheosis of San Pietro.

In 1959, with the construction of the new church, the current parish church of Condove, the old San Pietro was gradually abandoned, and in 1961 it was closed for worship and stripped of its furnishings.

Between the 1970s and 1980s, there was an agricultural warehouse inside the church; in the 1990s, it was the headquarters of a folk group, and later, due to the structure's precarious condition, it was definitively closed.

Starting in 2014, plans for its revival began, with work commencing on the renovation of the roof, consolidation of the facade, and restoration of the masonry structures. Currently, thanks to the Association of Friends of the San Rocco Church, this church is also used for concerts and art exhibitions.
