On the occasion of the 531st Fiera Franca dell’Escarton in Oulx, on Saturday, October 4, in the auditorium of the Istituto Superiore Des Ambrois, the 14th Day of Historical Linguistic Minorities Occitan, Francoprovençal, and French will take place, an established experience organized by the Chambra d’Òc Association. As every year, the day will serve as a showcase to illustrate the work carried out, a special moment for the sound of the languages, an opportunity to reflect on the past edition of Chantar l’uvèrn, and to present the new 17th edition of 2026.
The Day of Minorities will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the Des Ambrois Auditorium, with an event reserved for students of some high school classes, featuring a literary-musical Reading in minority languages: L’INTRECCIO or LA TREÇA in Occitan – L’ANTERSAN in Francoprovençal – LA TRESSE in French.
The cultural afternoon, also in the auditorium of the Istituto Superiore Des Ambrois, will instead be open to everyone. At 4:00 p.m. the municipal administration of Oulx and the attending authorities will inaugurate the cultural program on minority languages.
Important work is being carried out in the translation of classical texts, and this effort highlights how, over the years, the Occitan and Francoprovençal languages have evolved from oral pastoral languages into written languages, capable of expressing high-quality literary concepts. For this reason, a format has been devised with a literary-musical Reading entitled L’INTRECCIO - LA TREÇA in Occitan – L’ANTERSAN in Francoprovençal – LA TRESSE in French. Its purpose is to present readings from famous literary works in Occitan, Francoprovençal, and French, intertwined with musical tributes.
