Since January 1, 2012, the Natural Parks of the Lakes of Avigliana, Orsiera Rocciavrè, Gran Bosco di Salbertrand, and Val Troncea have been unified into the Management Authority of the Protected Areas of the Cottian Alps, based in Salbertrand, at the former Natural Park of Gran Bosco.

The Orsiera Rocciavrè Park extends over more than 11,000 hectares on a wide mountainous area that includes part of the upper Val Sangone and part of the ridge that separates the Susa Valley from the Chisone Valley.
The municipalities involved are: Bussoleno, Chianocco, Mattie, Meana di Susa, San Giorio di Susa, Susa, Villar Focchiardo in the Susa Valley, Coazze in the Val Sangone, Fenestrelle, Roreto Chisone, and Usseaux in the Val Chisone.

The borders of the protected area run at an average altitude of 1,400 m, and the most important peaks included within it reach nearly 3,000 m: Monte Orsiera (2,890 m), Monte Rocciavrè (2,778 m), and Punta Rocca Nera (2,852 m).

The territory is a Special Area of Conservation and Special Protection Area (Natura 2000 Ecological Network), featuring a very varied flora and fauna and as many as 14 habitats of community interest.
In addition, the Park Authority manages the SCI of the Xerothermal Oases of Chianocco and Foresto and of Rocciamelone.

The Park's plant landscape is particularly interesting both because the protected area covers a wide altitudinal range and because the three valleys on which it develops have different climatic and soil characteristics. The geomorphological characteristics of the Park's territory allow many species of animals to find a habitat congenial to them, indeed a diversified fauna is present.

The park organizes environmental education initiatives.
