Susa

On Friday, July 10th, Susa Svelata returns, a series of stories and shadows under the moonlight. This year's event is titled "Between Faith and Power" and is the prelude to the Historical Tournament of the Villages of Susa, organized by the Pro Loco of Susa for thirty-eight years. It follows the same theme, but is told through the places and documents that preserve it.

This isn't a visit to a single location, but a stroll through the historic center, exploring the city's unusual corners and glimpses, focusing on three main stops. After an aperitif, we begin at Adelaide Castle. At the Diocesan Archives, guided by Andrea Zonato, we discover some of the unique features preserved among the documents. At the Civic Library, we visit one of the frescoed rooms accompanied by Gisella Bruno. The Archives and Library are both managed by the Culturalpe cooperative, with which Adelaide Castle has been building a strong cultural synergy in recent months.

The story begins in the Arduin period, with the central figure of Countess Adelaide, a sovereign who combined political firmness and profound Christian faith. From this interweaving, a thread emerges that spans the centuries, which the evening follows step by step: on the one hand, religious figures whose wealth left their mark on the city, such as Cardinal Guillaume d'Estouteville, who financed the spires of the Cathedral of San Giusto, or Hugh de Montboissier, who chose to build the Sacra di San Michele rather than face exile; on the other, movements that opposed that same wealth by preaching poverty, including Saint Francis, who passed through Susa in the 13th century. This thread extends to the sacred art commissioned by bishops and nobles, where devotion is always intertwined with the desire to be remembered. This intertwining of political power and faith has shaped the urban and social fabric of Susa over time. The following week, from July 17th to 19th, the same theme comes to life in the Historical Tournament of the Villages, in honor of Countess Adelaide.

Friday, July 10th, meet at 8:00 PM at Adelaide Castle, Via Impero Romano, Susa, for an aperitif. The tour begins at 9:00 PM.
