Susa

ANCC-COOP and Coop Italia Società Cooperativa, together with the European Association of the Vie Francigene (EAVF), are the promoters and organizers of the Coop Outdoor initiative: twenty-five free hikes along the Via Francigena, the Via Romea Strata, the Cammino delle Terre Mutate, the Cammino di Oropa, and the Cammino di San Francesco, following the format of the well-known "I Love Francigena" events.

Today's urban trek takes place in the center of Susa, known as the "gateway to the Alps." Since ancient times, the city has been an outpost for controlling the mountains and a transit point for pilgrims heading to Rome. Strolling through the ancient medieval streets, we'll visit the Cathedral of San Giusto, a Romanesque and Gothic jewel, and the ancient Roman monuments located around the forum and the castle of Duchess Adelaide. A climb to the ancient castrum will allow us to observe the ancient Arch of Augustus, the aqueduct, and the Celtic altar. The walk will take you to the ancient Roman amphitheater, used for gladiator and mountain wildlife spectacles.
