Saturday, March 14, at 5:00 PM in Susa, at the Castello della Contessa Adelaide, Arbeboost: Alchemical resonances of narrated magic.
Arbeboost is a very recent musical project created by three Piedmontese musicians and ethnomusicologists who have been active on the Italian and European scene for many years. They are involved in various capacities in the research and dissemination of popular music and culture, organizers, leaders of cultural associations, and promoters of events and projects that combine the cultural and artistic dimension with environmental and social sustainability.
Arbeboost is a play on words between "boost" (English for "to enhance") and "arbebo," one of the names used in the language of the Occitan valleys of Italy to define the Jew's harp: a small musical instrument present in the musical cultures of numerous ethnic groups worldwide and among the oldest, yet least known, of Occitan musical traditions, with players of the oral tradition still active until the second half of the 20th century.
Alchemical Resonances of Narrated Magic is a show that combines various forms of storytelling: verbal, musical, and sung. Fairy tales and folk legends, myths of monstrous creatures and historical witch trials, songs and nursery rhymes, and sonic dialogues between a hypnotic Jew's harp (arbebo, ribeba, etc.), an obsessive accordion, and an anarchic bass clarinet alternating with unconventional bagpipes.
Instrumental suites, rhythmic and melodic interweavings, music from oral tradition, improvisation, and trance. A personal and creative repertoire that also highlights the richness of linguistic minorities, lesser-known worlds and cultural dimensions, highlighting their importance and modernity.
Running time: 60 minutes
Flavio Giacchero: bass clarinet, Bechonnet bagpipes
Massimo Losito: accordion, stomp box
Alessandro Zolt: narrator, Jew's harp
