On Saturday, November 7th, at 9:00 PM, the Auditorium Magnetto will host “Juliet,” a theater-circus performance created and performed by Stefano Marzuoli. Directed by André Casaca, with artistic contributions from Teresa Bruno and Riccardo Puccetti, the production is presented by Teatro C'art Comic Education.
Inspired by the iconic Shakespearean character Juliet Capulet, the show offers a reinterpretation through the pure, simple lens of a clown. The protagonist steps into the role of Juliet, reliving her lovesick madness—grappling with the challenge of recounting her story, while transforming the final tragedy into an opportunity for theatrical play.
The clown approaches love with absolute innocence and a guileless perspective, capable of restoring the original essence to the madness of love and transcending the dramatic nature of the tale.
The performance emerged from an artistic research process centered on the figure of Juliet—her wit, her passion, and the madness with which she pursues her love. The initial phase of the work focused on developing a female clown persona, capable of embodying the experiences of a vibrant, love-struck teenager through physical expression and emotion.
A central challenge of the project was to explore one of the core themes of Shakespeare’s tragedy through a single male performer using the language of clowning. The madness of love serves as the narrative thread throughout the piece, which unfolds via a predominantly non-verbal, comedic language—where storytelling transforms into play, and words evolve into imagery.
Furthermore, the artistic research examines the interplay between the feminine and the masculine in relationships, interpreting the experience of love as a journey of personal growth and self-discovery. An approach that explores a universal theme through an original theatrical form, skillfully blending lightness with depth.
“Juliet” is a 60-minute performance, suitable for audiences of all ages, which employs techniques from clowning, mime, and singing to create a stage language where comedy, irony, and poetry intertwine.
The production is the work of Teatro C'art Comic Education—an organization under the artistic direction of André Casaca, which possesses extensive experience in physical theatre and non-verbal comedy. Its artistic and pedagogical approach is rooted in the pursuit of a unique gestural language, built upon the deconstruction of ordinary, predictable movements. The company’s productions have been presented at festivals and in theatres across Italy, Switzerland, and Germany.
