Novalesa
The monastic community and the Metropolitan City of Turin are ready to celebrate the 1300th anniversary of the founding of Novalesa Abbey.
It was January 30, 726; 1300 years have passed. The Abbey in Val Cenischia has experienced periods of varying importance and centrality in history on both sides of the Alps, until 1972, when the Province of Turin purchased it to prevent it from falling into ruin.
An important gesture that has brought new life over time to a unique and special place for its history, faith, art, and culture.
The Benedictine monastic community has prepared a rich and meaningful program for the 1300th anniversary of its foundation, with illustrious guests throughout 2026.
We will begin the 1300th anniversary celebration at the Abbey on the afternoon of January 30, 2026, with a celebration of Vespers presided over by Cardinal Roberto Repole. This celebration will continue throughout the year until the conclusion of the centenary on October 15, 2026, the day of the dedication of the abbey church. Another Piedmontese cardinal, Monsignor Giorgio Marengo, will arrive from Mongolia to conclude the celebrations.
