The Exhibition

The art of depicting the landscape as an autonomous subject and field of stylistic exploration is at the heart of a new and significant group exhibition. The show brings together twenty-five artists in a chronological journey that spans from the late 19th century to the early 21st century, offering an in-depth analysis of the evolving dynamics and thematic continuities that have defined Italian landscape painting.

The selection of works, shaped by a rigorous art-historical approach, highlights the diverse expressions of a genre that, despite its apparent unity, allows for multiple interpretations. Among the prominent names, the exhibition also features masters from the history of Piedmontese art.
For example, Giacomo Soffiantino stands out for his inclination toward an informal style imbued with silent lyricism, while Francesco Tabusso’s painting belongs to a poetic realism, rich in materiality and light. Enrico Paulucci, by contrast, offers a more structured and synthetic vision, echoing the early 20th century and balancing between strong figuration and post-impressionist influences.

The exhibition path strongly emphasizes the stylistic resonances and divergences that animate the dialogue between the works. The expressionist tone and delicate brushwork of Felice Vellan contrast with the chromatic symbolism of Tino Aime, whose painting evokes an inner world grasped through the essence of a vibrant landscape.
The formal exploration by Ivo Bonino focuses on color texture and composition, pursuing a direction that diverges from more traditional representations.

While echoes of the late 19th century can still be perceived, the exhibition also explores how the genre evolved in the post-war years and throughout the 20th century, through the work of artists like Sergio Albano and Elisabetta Viarengo Miniotti. In their paintings, the landscape becomes less descriptive and more evocative, acquiring an almost abstract and conceptual quality.

The intergenerational dialogue is further enriched by the works of Vinicio Perugia and Fernando Farulli, who explore light and atmosphere with a sensitivity that recalls a solid painting tradition, yet marked by a personal and intimate vision.
The gestural power and bold chromatics of Edgardo Corbelli contrast with the formal rigor and compositional restraint of Lia Laterza, offering a glimpse into the many directions taken by contemporary painting.

Through this interplay of different artistic languages, the exhibition becomes a thematic and critical reinterpretation of the Italian landscape – seen not only as a physical place but as a mirror of individual sensibilities and artistic currents spanning over a century.
This event offers visitors the opportunity to compare styles and techniques, observing how each artist, though working with the same subject, has translated it into a unique and personal language. In this exhibition, the landscape becomes a pretext to explore the history of art – its evolutions and continuities – in an ongoing dialogue between past and present.
