On Sunday 12 July the hamlet of Melezet will transform into the beating heart of Piedmontese mountaineering memory. Exactly seven decades after a legendary feat, the event “1956/2026, One Valley, Four Ski Mountaineers, One Story” will celebrate the first extraordinary crossing of the Alps.
A high-altitude epic that inextricably linked the names of mountain giants such as Walter Bonatti, Longo, Guy and Dematteis to the Bardonecchia area. A precious fragment of local stories and memories that re-emerges from the past to inspire new generations.
The event, curated by Riccardo Topazio, will be held at the Assomont headquarters (Frazione Melezet, 45).
Program:
11.00am – Opening of the Exhibition: An exclusive photographic journey accompanied by the display of vintage mountain equipment, to experience first-hand the evolution of mountaineering.
5.00 pm – The Cultural Meeting: The central moment of the day with a rich debate and historical testimonies. Illustrious experts will speak, including Roberto Mantovani, Cecco Dematteis, Luciana Roude, Silvio Guiffrey, Alberto Borello, Piero Scaglia and Anna Sainato.
The notes of the popular music group Parenaperde, with their traditional sounds, will make the atmosphere even more magical.
