Via prato sellero, 10050 Bruzolo
Located next to the old mill canal, in the upper part of Bruzolo, near Pratosellero, stands the ancient forge, one of the oldest in the entire Piedmontese territory.
The first document mentioning the "forge" of Bruzolo dates back to 1282. Indeed, that year a convention was made between the Monastery of Montebenedetto and the feudal lord of Bruzolo Ugone Bertrandi, for the extraction of wood from the mountain of San Giorio to fuel a forge/foundry in Bruzolo.
The feudal lords' foundry remained active until 1720.
The forge, owned by the feudal lord, passed to the Olivero family with the sale of the Grosso Counts' patrimonial assets to Olivero Giuseppe in 1797. The water of the canal drove a wheel that subsequently became the tool to operate the forge's hammer. The quantity and speed of the water regulated the hammer's fall and therefore the various types of required work.
The forge remained in operation until the early 1960s, always under the ownership of the Olivero family.
Subsequently acquired by the Municipality of Bruzolo, it was restored in 2019.
