Author Franco Faggiani presents the book "Escartons. The Free Communities of the Occitan Alps" on Monday, August 17, at the 2 Giugno Library at 9:00 pm.
For nearly four centuries, from 1343 to 1713, among the high and rugged mountains of the Western Alps, Briançon, Queyras, Oulx, Pragelato, and Casteldelfino gave rise to a rare and, in many ways, extraordinary experience: a community of men and women capable of recognizing shared values of freedom, autonomy, mutual aid, and shared responsibility. It was the world of the Escartons.
