Sept. 28, 2025 - Oct. 5, 2025

Condove

On Sunday, September 28 at 5:00 PM, the Friends of the Church of San Rocco and the cultural association ELEVAL – Moments of Art, in collaboration with Mosaicopensiero by Marcello Monacelli, will inaugurate the exhibition “MOSAIC EXHIBITION: Tesserae in Harmony”, curated by Domiziana Bocina. The event will take place in the exhibition space of the ancient parish church of San Pietro in Piazza San Pietro, Condove. The exhibition will be open until October 5, with special openings on Saturday, October 11 and Sunday, October 12 on the occasion of the Toma Cheese Fair.

The Exhibition
The exhibition offers a unique opportunity to admire works by Monacelli (Mosaicopensiero), depicting characteristic views of the Condove area.
It not only presents the mosaics themselves but also features a themed exhibition path enhanced with photographs showing the artworks placed in their original settings. The Susa Valley has a long-standing tradition in mosaic art, with traces dating back to Roman times. Archaeological finds, such as the mosaic floors discovered in the Roman Villa of Caselette, bear witness to the presence of this artistic technique since antiquity. During the Middle Ages, mosaic art continued to flourish, especially in religious contexts, decorating apses and floors in many churches throughout the valley.

The exhibition is curated by Domiziana Bocina, with coordination by Valter Vesco. The setup is designed to enhance the artworks in harmonious dialogue with the rich decorations of the ancient parish church of San Pietro. The main exhibition path, composed of white display supports, is carefully designed to create a sense of openness and light, avoiding overcrowding and ensuring an optimal viewing experience.

In the side nave, visitors will be able to immerse themselves in a true artist’s workshop, with materials and tools made available by the artist. There will also be educational panels illustrating the history and technique of mosaics, including a section dedicated to materials, their origins, and their properties.

In addition, a community mosaic project will be created, open to everyone. Once completed, it will be exhibited by the Condove Pro Loco during the annual Toma Fair. Meetings and guided tours will also be organized for the general public as well as for the schools that have chosen to take part in the project.

The art of depicting landscapes as an autonomous subject and field of stylistic exploration is at the heart of this new and significant collective exhibition. The display brings together twenty-five artists in a chronological journey that spans from the late 19th century to the early 21st century, offering an in-depth analysis of the evolving dynamics and thematic continuities that have characterized Italian landscape painting.
