An evening/nighttime excursion in the Sestriere area aimed at discovering the Alpine landscape at night and observing the starry sky, with particular attention to the relationship between ecosystems, sensory perception, and the quality of darkness.
The activity proposes experiencing the night not only as a moment of observing the sky, but as an environment to be traversed and perceived through listening, orientation, and the progressive reduction of artificial light.
During the walk, participants will be accompanied in activities to adapt to night vision, experiencing the changes in visual and spatial perception as they transition from light to darkness. Particular attention will be paid to actively listening to the landscape and the construction of a simple "sound map" of the nighttime environment, identifying sounds, distances, and directions perceived in the darkness.
During the stops, topics related to light pollution, the fragility of Alpine and nocturnal ecosystems, and the orientation of wildlife will be addressed. The main stop will be dedicated to observing the sky and identifying the main constellations, with informative insights into humanity's relationship with the mountains and the night, accompanied by a simple shared hot drink. The return journey along the same route allows participants to compare their perception of the landscape before and after dark adaptation.
Materials: Hiking shoes and a headlamp, preferably with a red light, are important.
