May 29 is an important date for all the municipalities that were part of those high mountain communities that took the name of Escartons: the Escarton d'Oux (with the current municipalities of Bardonecchia, Oulx, Sauze d'Oulx, Salbertrand, Exilles, Chiomonte, Cesana, Sauze di Cesana, Sestriere and Claviere), the Escarton of Briançon, Pragelato, Casteldelfino and Queyras.
For more than four centuries, these communities were part of the historical region of Dauphiné. Thanks to this event, not only was an autonomous and conscious management of the territory's resources experimented, but it is thanks to this event that we owe today the French and Occitan linguistic and cultural heritage present in the dialects of these communities and in the toponyms as well as in the surnames.
On May 29, 1343, the Grande Charte was drawn up on the initiative of the people. The local associations are invited to a walk on May 29, with a meeting at 2:15 pm and departure from San Sicario at 2:30 pm, arriving in Sauze di Cesana in San Restituto at 5 pm. The celebration of the day will continue in CaViVa at 5:30 pm with a moment of conviviality, with the meeting of the Occitan speakers of the Escartons territories, organized by the Chambra d'Oc.
