The Col Basset xerothermal oasis extends over an area of 267 between 2100 m and 2700 m, delimited by Monte Fraitève (2,701 m) and Monte Triplex (2,507 m). It is a site strongly affected by human activities linked to tourism: in fact it covers the ridge between the Susa Valley and the Chisone Valley in correspondence with numerous ski lifts and ski slopes of the famous Via Lattea. Even in summer, motorized traffic is notable due to the portion of the Assietta provincial road that connects Sestriere to Susa and Pian dell'Alpe.
