Philatelic exhibition in Susa

Aug. 7, 2026 - Aug. 21, 2026

Susa

On Wednesday, August 12th, just before sunset, the Moon will cover over ninety percent of the solar disk from the Susa Valley. In Italy, the eclipse will be partial, with the band of totality passing much further north and west, but Piedmont is among the most favored regions of the country: the maximum is expected around 8:20 PM, with the Sun now low on the horizon.

During the same weeks, the Castle hosts "Total Solar Eclipses in the Space Age," a philatelic exhibition curated by the Italian Astrophilatelic Association. The panels recount a century of eclipses through stamps, envelopes, and postmarks: scientific expeditions, telescopes transported to the other side of the world, and the satellites that changed the way we study the solar corona. It's a history of science told through an unusual archive, made of gummed paper and postmarks.

The poster photograph was taken in Mongolia during the 2008 eclipse by a member of the Segusini Amateur Astronomers Association, which holds its monthly meetings at the Castle.
