On March 29th we will have a partial solar eclipse (magnitude 0.9376), visible from most of Italy, although very modest in many regions. In Turin the eclipse will begin at 11:17, with maximum phase at 12:02 (magnitude: 0.208, 11.19%) and will end at 12:47 (times in CET). The duration will be 1 hour and 29 minutes.

In Susa the headquarters and the Observatory of the Associazione Astrofili Segusini – at the Castello della Contessa Adelaide (with entrance from Via Impero Romano, 2) – will be open, with free admission, from 10:30 to 13:30. For information: info@astrofilisusa.it.

Never observe the Sun directly without adequate protection: this can cause very serious damage to your eyesight, up to complete blindness. With optical instruments, including cameras and binoculars, you must observe exclusively using adequate professional filters.

The safest method for observing the Sun is however the projection method, already described by Galileo Galilei in 1612.
