Ithaca lies behind and in front of Giorgio Ramella. It is a nostalgia, a memory, but also a desire to escape, the very place from which one longs to return. This is the tension that embraces the series of works dedicated by the artist to the Odyssey, to Odysseus above all. And to man, to the existential condition that characterizes Ulysses, the first modern man, the one who uses intelligence rather than strength.
The ancient and the new worlds pass the baton in his thinking even before his actions.
A poignant reading, which brings a myth, an abstract figure like Ulysses, alive and contemporary. It speaks of a journey, of the experience that is the journey of life. It speaks of monsters and witches who encounter each other, whom each encounters in their existence.
This journey to and from Ithaca is surprising, and also transforms into a pilgrimage within the soul, the personal
and collective unconscious.
Giorgio Ramella follows in the footsteps of Ulysses, following him in his wanderings, his visions, his memory.
THE EXHIBITION
Power, beauty, youth, strength, seduction. More human than humans were the ancient gods.
Unfinished portions of canvas appear. Cracks that fracture the earth and sky, those of ancient Greek vases, which, along with Roman aedicules, inspired the style and composition, a catalog of a constellation of precious scenes scattered like oracles throughout Ramella's paintings.
