Conference about Constitution in Mompantero

Oct. 4, 2025 - Oct. 4, 2025

Mompantero

Eighty years after the Liberation, is the Italian Constitution still sound and robust? Have the principles set out in the fundamental charter of democratic Italy withstood the passage of time? These are crucial questions that historians Bruno Maida and Francesco Pallante of the University of Turin will examine and discuss. The event is scheduled for Saturday, October 4, at 3:30 p.m. in the multipurpose hall of the Marzano Grangia hamlet in Mompantero, under the patronage of the Metropolitan City of Turin. After the institutional greetings, the floor will be given to the two scholars, who will reflect on the antifascist roots of the Constitution and on how and to what extent the ideals of the Resistance, which guided the founding fathers, remain central to contemporary Italian society.

Bruno Maida is Professor of Contemporary History at the University of Turin and also specializes in the History of Childhood, a field in which he holds the only chair in Italy. He is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Piedmont Institute for the History of the Resistance and Contemporary Society and of the Technical-Scientific Committee of the Presidency of the Council for the creation of the new Italian memorial at Auschwitz. He collaborates with Rai Storia and Radio Tre. His main research interests include the twentieth century, fascism and its wars, the Resistance and deportation to Nazi camps, anti-Jewish persecution, and social transformations.

Francesco Pallante is Full Professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Turin. He serves as Rector’s Delegate to the Presidency of the Guzzo Foundation and coordinates the Scientific Committee of the Ferdinando Rossi School of Advanced Studies at the University of Turin. He is a member of the Italian Association of Constitutionalists and is on the editorial boards of Italian and international law journals. He participates in the legal advisory board of the CGIL and writes on current constitutional issues for the newspaper “Il Manifesto” and the online journal “Volere la luna.” His research topics include the foundation of constitutional validity, unwritten law, constituent processes, democratic representation, the relationship between social rights and financial constraints, and regional autonomy.
