The site is located on the left hydrographic slope of the Val Clarea, the first of the tributary valleys of the Val di Susa upstream of the Val Cenischia.
Of the 6 community-interest habitats identified, the most important, the reason for the establishment of the site, is represented by remnants of forest formations similar to the “Atlantic Acidophilous Beechwoods with Ilex and Taxus in the underbrush.” The high-shrub communities of yew (Taxus baccata) are of notable relevance as they are rare formations in the region. In the SIC, they are composed of individuals with multi-stemmed trunks and prostrate growth due to frequent avalanches. These, in association with alpine laburnum (Laburnum alpinum) and holly (Ilex aquifolium), occupy the beech underbrush and colonize the stabilized screes of the lower slopes, at an altitude of approximately 1,400 to 1,600 meters.
Among the amphibians, the fire salamander (Salamandra salamandra) is present, which, although not of community interest, deserves equal protection as its breeding sites, springs, and streams in the woods are increasingly being captured and piped.
